The Ren Men Show Episode 23 – “Comeback Time”

May 16, 2010

in Episodes, Family/Friends, Lifestyle Design, Real Estate, Used Car Dealership, Vending

Its a comeback episode! We discuss this week’s victories and throw in some lifestyle design as well. (After all… isn’t that what this show is about?)

Runtime: 25:18
A quick rundown of the episode:

  • We remember why we want everyone to be an entrepreneur!
  • We rented 6 houses in the last week.
  • Lifestyle Design: Elijah gives a tour of his ‘home theatre.’ Grant discusses hiring a new housekeeper, and encourages you to do the same.
  • A small victory in vending; a site visit is promised from the KOV repair man and we receive our first massage chairs.
  • Ren Auto Group – we now have 23 cars on the lot and we have already sold 3!
  • Chalk Talk – Best of 7 – Ren man vs Ren man Olympics – you choose the events.
  • Wrap-Up – Never, never, never give up.
  • Don’t forget, most referrals = Free Southwest Airlines Flight

That basement looks familiar….

Great episode. Got a few ideas for your events….whadda ya think of these?:
- 10 lap go kart race
- Heads up Hold’em showdown!
- Bullseye shooting contest (doesn’t matter if it’s real guns at a range, or pellet guns in your backyard…setup some targets and do a best of three series)
- “You’re not being the ball Danny”…Caddyshack putting tourney…Tape a few shoeboxes together and cut out a few holes of varying width for the balls to go through…each hole is worth a different point value….set it up on a putting green at a distance, most points after 10 balls wins
- 1 on 1 basketball to 20 OR….around the world 3-pointer challenge (think just like the professional skills competition)

Only a few, but it should get you started…. plus they’re all pretty camera friendly.

Cheers boys!

Hell yeah, that looks relaxing.
Here are some ideas. Do some Combat Sports! Go for a sumo match with those fatass sumo blowup costumes!

Or do some American Gladiator Style competitions, the ones where you had the stickfight with a gladiator, dunno how that was called again.

Best of 3 Olympic lifts would be awesome.

Ah well, so much more ideas, so little time. Gotta run, hope you guys will have a blast!

Good stuff! Gotta ask though, what are you doing with all those 4-Hour work-week books behind the chairs? I just finished it myself and it gave me inspiration to design my lifestyle.

I like the idea of a One on One basketball game. Get a hoop set up in the car lot and go to it! First one to 20 by 2’s.

Glad to see you have dialed in the used car lot, and learned how to buy good used cars at auction. Sounds like it is coming around for you guys. I really like this idea, so I will be watching closely, and gleaning all I can from you.

Chin up boys!

Later,
Andy

Good episode. I have to tell you that I started watching last week and right away bought Crush It and Cashflow Quadrant. I read them both in 3-days. I’m not a huge reader so that is a big deal for me. I am pumped. I’m still on the bench working the 9-5 as an “E” but I’m going to take what I learned from Crush It and work towards that “B”. Next on the list is 4HWW. I’m ordering it today!

Grant and Alan,

Glad to see that everything coming together. Good luck with the massage chairs at the truck stops. It will be interesting to see how that works out for you. I see them at airports when traveling – While there are often people sitting in them, they aren’t usually funding the massage service…Just sittin’. Again, it will be cool to see if it becomes a viable revenue stream.

Congrats on the new housekeeper. Did you have Jill do a background check on her? It’s always wise to know who you are letting into your home, around your fam, etc.

I stopped by http://www.renautogroup.com – Nice website and good variety of autos. I’d be a bit hesitant to acquire a vehicle with 200k miles on it and would personally target lower mileage wheels; then again, I may not represent your target market.

Renlympics:
- Arm and/or leg wrestling or perhaps a good old-fashioned, oiled-up, man-on-man Grecco Roman match (boy, that’s an image!)
- Stare-off
- Office obstacle course
- Puppet competition (who can put on the best original puppet play)

Keep up the good work guys!
Matt

Glad to see you liked the Office Obstacle Course idea – I can’t wait to see how you implement it!

Keep up the quality entertainment,
Matt

Good episode. Makes me want to work my side projects. Some ideas that come to mind for the competition:

-Water balloon target practice at moving cars (ones your friends are driving, not random passer-byers)
-Most geocache finds in one day
-Rollerblade/skateboard/pogo stick triathlon – half mile each
-Most profit in 2 hours (location, price, costs, etc. all up to competitor) selling anything that you two agree on like lemonade, gum, t-shirts, whatever a la the Apprentice show
-Jump roping – surprisingly aerobic and funny to watch
-Convincing of strangers in downtown to sign petition saying no to a fictitious bill (you guys are salesman aren’t you?)

Have fun…

Really enjoyed the show. It’s great to see the energy your two exude. My thoughts on the up coming Rentathlon:

- caber toss
- potato sack race
- juggling
- selling showdown (I liked that idea)
- sling target shooting (like David and Goliath style, but at cans)
- brainstorm car commercial ides. Most ideas in a time limit.
- sumo wrestling (use the sumo suit. Don’t really want to see you guys in diapers.)

Looking forward to the next episode.

Cheers, Chris.

Great stuff guys. I’m enjoying the show and anything I can learn about what you are doing. Question – What is supporting your lifestyle right now? It wouldn’t appear that the cash flow on your properties or vending machines would provide enough to pay your “salaries” and you just started the auto business. Are you doing something else for revenue?

Todd,
We take equity from the houses we purchase to pay our salaries. The vending, the cash flow from the properties and the cash from sales from the Auto Group all aid in salary pay as well.

Hey Boys — Great show! Welcome back from the pity party episode. You’ve turned the corner, baby. It’s all rainbows and puppies from here on out. Probably not…

The Renlympics! I love it. I don’t know what events you should do, but whatever they are, just add “to the death” to the end. “Bowling to the death” sound so much more intriguing than just “bowling.”

Also, if any of your events involve a beer bong, my money is on Alan. I’m not saying anything, I’m just saying…

I had a great time at the Cubs vs Reds game (The first place Reds. How did that happen?). I’ll give you a shout next time I’m in the area.

Lou,

I assume you’re Sweet Lou who spent 3 months in Thailand recently. Shoot me an email at eidemilm@hotmail.com – I’d love to hear about your adventure. My wife & I are planning on taking a full year off of work within 3-5 years (lots of planning and arrangements to make) and it would be great to hear about the area and what you did during the time to make the most of it.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt — Sorry, but that wasn’t me. However, I hope you and your wife have a great time in Thailand, even though it seems a little dangerous at the moment.

Lou,

Sorry I mixed you up with ‘Sweet lou’, But you should know that your postings seem pretty sweet to me! I’m not sure where my wife and I will end up on our adventures, but it’s always nice to get the first hand perspective to those who have gone before.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply,
Matt

A little advertising for you. I am at the Apple store messing with the ipads and I left your site on about 5 of them. Hopefully at least a 25% closing rate.
