Damn good fun. That playoff was intense, I’m surprised no one lost any fingers.
This is a groundbreaking episode for you two, congrats.
We are too, thanks, it was our best episode yet! Thanks…
That’s the best part about being a dad. It reminds you how fun it is to be a kid. I love playing with my kids. We have a blast. I am a champ at hungry hungry hippos.
Congrats on meeting Gary V.
Sounds like a HHH challenge from Micah to the RenMen to me? Who will be champion? Tough call…Just make sure to check under Grant’s Hippo Head for hidden marbles Micah, it can make all the difference. And check up his sleaves for Kings!
Matt
Well said, Matty E…
Thanks, and oh yeah, hungry-hungry hippos, we take on all-comers…
Wow! Tremendous episode! The stuff with Gary Vee was great. He is crazy competitive.
Did you get a chance to talk to Gary (or AJ) at all about the services they offer at VaynerMedia? From what little I know about them, I think they could help take your show to the next level. I think it would be worth discussing it with them.
I hated waiting for a new episode, but this one was so good it was worth it. Well done, boys. Well done.
We didn’t get to talk about Vaynermedia….glad you enjoyed the show…
Grant and Alan,
Outstanding show – I enjoyed the introduction, but wondered if Daniel was excited about the show or if he had alternative motives? Either way, he had great energy!
Noticed that MCE was filming in NYC – If MCE was with you, who was selling the Ren minivans and Saabs? It seems that you have recently moved the Toyota Prius and one of the Civics – Seems like a trend towards low-MPG imports…It will be interesting to see if the trend continues.
GV is interested in an interview with ‘Slip into a Slim Jim’ Randy MM Savage – What about Jesse TB Ventura? Seems like a double whammy, Classic wrestler turned politician. perhaps he’s a beer man though.
I enjoyed the office obstacle course – Very creative. I like the fact that it wasn’t all physical. The book sculpture was particularly entertaining…Almost as much as watching Grant try to chug a bottled water. It does sometimes have a bit of a bite to it. Maybe Alan spiked it?!?!
Good luck with the contact quest, or was it the Boob Contact Challenge? The company I contract to had a presentation on how to be successful from Malcolm Gladwell last week. I didn’t make it but a friend of mine did – Gladwell implied that it mainly comes down to hard work and long hours (ie: Bill Gates sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night as a kid to get access to a computer). Kind of goes against the Four Hour Work Week concept, which could make for an interesting interview.
Keep up the good work and Lifecycle Design.
Cheers,
Matt
The Macho Man is the real deal…
Lots of wacky hijinks in this episode … made me smile. But the biggest takeaway for me was the idea of a continuous effort to establish a life/work balance.
In your interview, Garry V. mentioned life/work balance as something he “thinks about every day”. Trying to find time for himself and his family while building a thriving business at the same time.
Your NYC trip was obviously time away from the office at a point in your career when I know you are trying to scale up.
Do you ever feel like you are playing when you should be working? Or, working when you should be playing? What kind of mechanisms do you have in place for balancing your time?
All the best – and greetings from Philadelphia.
JKC
Tom Follery is king in the Ren Men Nation! We always feel like we should be playing when we are working. If you are playing you should be having fun, that’s not always the case if you are “working”. When Alan start to slip back into the rut of the regular 9-5 mentality he like to return to the Four Hour Work Week book, and read it cover to cover. When Grant finds himself in the same scenario, he will find a new business to start/open.
The episode was so good, I just watched it again.
“Does your husband play?” That was classic, Alan.
Gary says a lot of stuff I agree with and some stuff I don’t. But the thing I love about Gary is his passion and enthusiasm. I also appreciate the fact that he is authentic. He really is the guy you see on WLTV, giving keynotes, or in a Ren Men interview. Those are good traits no matter if you’re starting a business, raising a child, or just cutting the grass.
BTW, according to the unofficial Renlympics scoreboard:
Grant 1
Alan 0
Where’s the post-medal ceremony party?
I was hoping that my comment was picked up by the microphone, as well as “Hold your skirt, down next time.” The post-medal ceremony party only happens once the best of seven is complete…
G & A, I have three things to say:
1. Most entertaining episode, hands down.
2. Hi MCE!
3. Incorporating play is such a fantastic point. It goes hand in hand with dreaming bigger and believing that you can have any life you want…that it *is* possible. I think so many people can’t imagine that their “work” can ever be fun, that they can make the majority of their day enjoyable if they simply decide to. The “having fun” part is sometimes lost amongst the “get off the bench and work hard and finally take action towards your goals” messages – and it definitely shouldn’t be!
1. Thanks, we think so, until the BBQ contest rolls out!
2. He still hearts you.
3. Couldn’t say it better ourselves.
Guys, you got Gary V… That’s AWESOME!
Looks like you guys had a blast over in NYC. I think it’s hilarious you brought some sort of competition into the mix.
I would have called interference on the Hungry Hippo lift, but that’s just me. haha
Keep the episodes coming!
